i've gotten a PSP!...now what? (homebrew questions)

after such a long wait, ive finaly gotten a new PSP:dance:it was a gift from my aunt. i haven't gotten a memory stick yet, but i should have one by next week. i had some questions about downgrading and the homebrew itself. please try to answer these in order.
1. is there a good online tutorial for downgrading the PSP and installing homebrew?
2.for console emulation (on PC) these are the emulators i perfer(are these programs avaible on the PSP?)-
nes-FCE ultra
genesis-kega
arcade-mame
snes-sneese(because the sound emulation is more spot on)
turbografx 16-mednafen, ootake
game boy/advance-visualboy advance, BGB
how great do the emus perform? are there any compatibily problems?

2) NES - I have used NesterJ and had good success with it.
Gen - PicoDrive works awesome
Arcade - MAME4ALL by TTYman, it is a port of the GP2X version and it
works great, depending on what game you are wanting to play
SNES - SNES9XTYL-0.4.2me, works pretty good, some games work great and some struggle
Turbo - I am not sure, I am sure there is something but I dunno what.
GBA - Also not sure about that one, I just use my GBA.

For GBA emulation use GPSP, it has great compatibility and the games run at @ full speed.

Check out http://www.psp-hacks.com . They have loads of tutorials in the forums and were very helpfull to me when I had any questions etc. At first it may seem a little daunting when downgrading your PSP, but just spend a night reading up about things and you'll be fine.

also, don´t forget to check out the cool tools and homebrew ports.
Found a port of Warlords (1) and a good VNC for my PSP.
Also, be sure to use the newest firmware from dark Alex with the 1.50 kernel addon for homebre compatibility.

My PSP is currently in use as a kitchen radio with the new firmware features and a different stream player.

Stay well away from PSP hacks, they've had so many issues with corrupted firmware updates. DCemu's site is a little messy but dig deep on the forums and you'll find everything you need.

i accedently upgraded it insted of using the custom firmware. i tried to use the 390 EBOOT with the dark alex mm3. custom but it kept refusing at first. can someone help me downgrade it to 3.80?

If you're on Sony firmware 3.90 you're going to need someone local to create a "Pandora's Battery" to install custom firmware.
Find someone you trust who already has custom firmware and follow the guide at Exophase (http://forums.exophase.com/).

is there anyway to get any homebrew on my psp slim? it's still at 3.90. it was at 3.80 originaly, but it refused to run the dark alex 3.90 custom firmware- and i followed all the steps. then i accedently ran the official update. is it possible to add any homebrew (or any custom firmware) to it???

yes, Pandora's battery will put the machine into service mode regardless of version number.

In service mode of course you can do all sorts of crazy shit, including loading a custom firmware.

Which reminds me, I should listen to myself more often, I have yet to locate a Pandora's battery and someone I trust!

i thought the system had to be loaded with custom firmware for pandroa's battery to work.
anyway, where can i find the most reliable, trust-worthy tutorial for making (or getting) pandora's battery for psp slim?

I currently have a PSP Slim and it works great for emulation.....but keep in mind that you have to find builds of the emulators for the slim model. The ones for the PSP Phat don't work on the Slim (or at least I never got them to).
