I have seen this at eBay:

"Sega Dreamcast Developer Test Kit"

I have seen one of this units before but I think it was a pal one.
This one is very interesting as it is complete.

The purpose of this thread is to ask if anyone knows anything about this units. A friend has told me that they come with a pci card that you put in your pc and you can connect the pc and DC using a wire. Any more info? Anyone owns one?

I don't really know anything on these units, but I have more pictures, so here they are:

I though it might be cool to have a better view of the pcb that hangs out of the consoel !

I count 25 connections on this pcb for the visible side (so 50 for all the pins). So this might be a scsi cable to connect the device to a computer and debug/emulate gd-rom. Just guesses though, don't quote me on that, it's speculations.

as i wrote in the ebay thread too, that dev dreamcast is sold as defective as the seller had no way of testing it

oh and for any info on this thing, you should ask Mark30001 ;)

Heh, I honestly haven't a clue what this item does. I know someone from my forums won the item from -=FamilyGuy=-'s pic, though he never gave us any updates.

I had also asked the original eBay seller if he had any more and said he had a few that he'd sell to me, but I never got a response back.

Oh well, maybe someone here can win this item.

Bugger, I thought this unit was common knowledge. I actually stumbled across an auction for one of these fairly recently that had a pretty detailed description of what it did. Sadly, assuming you'd all have seen it before (as I have seen a couple) I skipped on it and never took much notice. The PCB had 2 large buttons clearly indicating their function. Perhaps someone could ask the current seller for better images!

What did the buttons do, can you remember?

I honestly cannot remember! I was looking at it on eBay and not paying ANY attention to it, just skipping through several items, but I did scan through the description & images and noticed the seller was offering a fair amount of information and that the PCB was marked with what the button functions were :-( Sorry, I would tell you if I knew!

I thought you didn't say it because you weren't sure or because it wasn't the same item or something. So I assume you don't have the item in your eBay ended auctions list, what a pity!

I spotted it whilst I was at work, which is the reason it was not given the kind of attention it perhaps deserved

Now that I see them both, they look too similar. Maybe the address checker is not an address checker or the Dev console in eBay is a called address checker

I think the HKT-0800 unit was the Address Checker, but I may be wrong.

Could someone contact the seller through eBay for me and ask if and what the HKT-**** number for that unit is?

I wonder if it's related at all to the DDH?

The seller has answered and even attached more pictures of the unit to the email!

He is saying that the unit is a HKT-3000. The modem being HK-3030.

Looking at his closeup pics it seems identical to what we saw of the address checker.

Check out his pics here:

Hope this helps to clarify some.

Thx for sharing.

Final step is someone to get one of this units and tell us what they do. I'd do it but I'm pretty broke at the moment.

By the way, does the red booklet say the real name of this thing? So we can officially call it "Dreamcast Address Checker" or "Dreamcast Test Unit" or whatever.

According to this picture, it's officially an adress checker:
