Funny enough, I have never seen a dd dev drive for sgi

They developed a Partner N network interface for being able to use a dev N64 + 64dd from both PC and SGI. Pretty cool.
On shiggsy's site is a picture of it.

http://shiggsy.gbadev.org/section.php?s=n64

The KMC interface Box should be it.

In the latest versions yes, but the U64 sdk is only compatible to the 5.4 version....im sure its compatible with some other version too (6.3?) but i have to check that.

An indy is all of $20 these days.

$20 for the Indy + xxx$ for shipping. That bitch is incredibly _heavy_! >_<

Hey kammedo, can you make a list with what equipment you need for a (complete) N64 dev setup?

Well it depends from the kind of dev kit you want to setup...
Based on my researches you have three choices :

a) SGI Indy
Hardware :
*Indy
*U64 Board featuring 16 MB of on-board RAM
*Joyboard extention

Software :
*SDK
*Debugger

b) PC
Hardware :
*Modified N64 (KMC version -> have a look here if you dont have one and want to make one from a retail unit http://www.yntproject.net/HOWTO-KMC_N64.htm)
*Partner N cartridge
*PC interface card (either ISA or PCI - PCI is rare!)
Optionally :
*2 slot extension board
*64dd dev drive
*flash cart
*nu flash gang writer
*Sound cart emulator <- this one is basically a flash cart with 1M of RAM, dont know if it has any differences to a normal Flash card.

Software :
*SDK
*Debugger

C)Network unit (yes it exists)
Hardware
*Network interface
*KMC Nintendo 64
*Partner N
Optionally,
a 64dd dev drive
This last one can be used by both Indy / PC (being it in the network).

Now you clearly see that the N64 project, although having really really very much potential was mined from the start, as

a) a complete kit could cost you pretty much (Indys back then were Top-High End workstations!).
b) it was hellish complicated to set it up and use (u64 boards are very sensitive to heat - if the board gets too hot it will hang)
c) long load and debugging times!!

I dont wonder about the limited number of third parties developing on N64 at all anymore

you clearly see the hand of SGI in this whole thing too. I wouldnt wonder if Nintendo had to give up on some contract-base requests to SGI...

I have to write a doc about that. Will do in the next days I hope. Shouldnt take long.

Thanks to Anonymous, we have a large upload of important docs.

http://www.assemblergames.com/downloads/Environment_Disc.rar
http://www.assemblergames.com/downloads/N64_Official_DevKit_SDK.rar
http://www.assemblergames.com/downloads/n64psy-q.tar.gz

Kammedo can you do me a favor and take screencaps of the TOC for the rar files / isos so we can make this resource easier to use?

As always, please don't spread this around via direct linking.
Don't hand out links as it will endanger the file area. E-mail the files or rapidshare, but never give out the links directly!

kammedo
11-27-2007, 06:01 PM
After a quick view I can for sure tell that we have

a) Debugger_Disc.rar is the Partner-n debugger (version 1.03) setup disk
b) Environment_disc.rar is the Ultra 64 OS Ver 2.0H
c) N64_Official_DevKit_SDK is the Ultra 64OS Ver 2.0L
d) n64psy-q.tar.gz contains the SN debugger setup disk
+ PR files (object files for ROM building through mild, the same you get when you install the N64 OS (nusystem)).

I have the last version for Partner N Debugger.
Considering the fact others linked it too, here it is :
http://www.yntproject.net/N64Devkit/PartnerN.rar

As ASSEMbler stated, please dont share with others directly ! It will only make me take it down. :P

ASSEMbler, do you think this is enough detailed? I can make a list of each directory if needed.

Later.

I am certainly very pleased to see such massive cooperation between important members of the forum.

This will not only advance the knowledge surrounding the topic, but will further allow something more than HLE to be possible.

In a few words, true N64 emulation, with limited to no speed-hacks, capable of taking advantage of today's powerful computer hardware.

Furthermore, it is invaluable in conquering and preserving the 64DD.

Great work Assembler, and many thanks to everyone who keeps contributing and developing.

This indeed shows how one mature and focused group can achieve important feats, albeit in secret for the moment.

I look forward to more materials being released or at least directed to competent members.

of course, but SDKs and manuals are surely a part of it, especially for custom-tailored hardware.

No, not at all! They used JPEG compression for storing the images in the ROM, and the microcode ("codec") you see there loads it on behalf of the RSP!
That is an incredible proof of genious ;).
