SO I got my magic keys today........they didn't quite fit right so I had to order this:
http://www.estarland.com/Playstation2.cat..product.23324.html
Dreamcast.......Still don't have a boot disc.
XBOX and XBOX 360.....forget about it.
Wii.......nintendo are Nazis
Gamecube........Freeloader and you're good.
We need to spam for region free gaming.

Dreamcast just needed DC-x, how is that any different then Gamecube, other then it being older? Or the PS1 for that matter.

As for a Dreamcast boot disc, have you gone to MegaGames.com? They have several boot discs, so you can burn a couple of them and odds are that if a game doesn't work with one it'll work with the other. Utopia works with most games, anyway.
And what about the Saturn? All you need is an Action Replay or something similar.

You know in my rage I forgot about Saturn
I'm just generally annoyed right now.
SNES and N64 weren't bad if you have pliars if I recall.
I use the Gameshark method for my Dreamcast and well it works.......and it doesn't

if you read my other dreamcast thread you'll know i'm on my 2nd dreamcast
my first one I bought modded.......From Buy rite......that explains why that one died
my curant one was sitting outside at a flea market for god knows how long and has some rust and the discs skip while playing music some times. About 5 games won't boot at all or boot and are unplayable.
I thought estarland was fake....
Uh oh?!?!?!......

Universal power supply and no region coding.

Saturn even more import friendly.

GC is not that import friendly. Freeloader/AR can't play many games in my experience. A region switch is only ideal for NTSC machines/NTSC imports.
PS3 is the most import-friendly machine, by default.

xbox is the most region friendly console imho as most games dont even have region encoding on them, or doing a simple softmod takes less than 5 mins which opens up a whole new world for gaming on it, also the 360 has a fair few region free games as well, which is ideal for us pal users as can get games sometimes months before UK release

all my import cube games work on my cube no problem with my freeloader.
So I read up on Estarland and aside from a few Jadded idiot customers which I see everywhere. they seem legit they've been around for 16 years somebody who writes for Gamespot uses them. SO I think I'm good.
Toys N Joys however......You have to threaten to break their legs to get them to send your games out.

Donkey Konga doesnt work right on the Gamecube, it cant save ;) The only import I still have so.
And surprisingly, my DC from Buyrite works, though it came with garbage controllers (official brand, but nonworking) and none of the games I wanted hah. Glad they are gone

On the gamecube you can only save US & EUR on the same memorycard. Japanese games need their own memorycard!

UGH now it seems that case I ordered might not even work on my PS2.
BUT I figured out what I needed to do. I had to tape that Sensor shut after I finally got my PS2 open.
There sure is alot of metal under the hood.
I also removed the doors for the memory card slots they're such a pain to put in when they're there and it's dark.

Unless SONY have added some kind of "if disk == certain type, deny access via linux" to their firmware, it should be possible to play any DVD from any region via PS3 linux and a suitable linux DVD player that uses libdvdcss to bypass the protection. Same may apply to using blu-ray disks and one of the various blu-ray cracks floating about. PS1 games would work if someone ported a PS1 emulator to PS3. But I dont know for sure how the PS3 optical drive works so I dont know if it will let you read DVDs, Blu-ray movies or PS1 disks from PS3 linux. If there was enough CPU horsepower, you could even emulate PS2 on PS3 (how much of PS2 Sony is emulating in the newer PS3 without hardware backwards compatibllity I dont know)

It's really not going to be possible to run a better PS2 emulator on the PS3 than the one Sony provide.

about the PS3 being region free, is that really true?
i mean... its a sony! :icon_bigg has anyone actually tried a random obscure hentai maid jpn game on a US/PAL system?
Everyone used to say the Xbox was region free, so I bought around 7 games while in Japan and when I came back not a single one worked, so im a bit skeptical

Welcome but lease try to keep to newer topics.
Anyways you probably where using freeloader which seems to bypass the issue. If you use a region switch mod, you can't keep saves on both cards as the HW will prompt you to format the card before saving.

While Blueray films have region encoding. Ps3 games do not. Yet they still will list their region on the back/side of the box.
I have a few JPN PS3 games and they play fine on my USA PS3.

Still. This is akin to fearing MS will sell your credit card number to a company in china. It's just not going to happen.
Hell i'll check the PS3 sdk my self today to even see if it's even possible on the current version. I'm pretty sure it's not.
the HW will prompt you to format the card before saving.
And at this point I advise all of you to read carefully before hitting the A-button. 4 runs through Resident Evil 4 & almost completed savestates of Super Mario Sunshine & Zelda TWW... not to mention 150hrs of Ikaruga. Oh dear...
well, the day my ps3 refuses to run a ps3 game because of region, i will be carrying my ps3 to sony's office and refuse to leave until they return me the money i paid from it -_-
the already stole my linux, spammed a damn facebook on my XMB, and i don't even want to know what else they can come up with.
if they remove the region free-ness, and make me unable to use 80% of my games, someone is going to die.
Never say never again. I have seen incredibly dumb decisions in the gaming industry before.

I've been following it all day. Few things to note
1. They don't say what software they are running. A user on neogaf found out it's 90% likely the Netflix Disc (not a game)
2. They said games with FW 3.50 yet if you look at one of the message it gives. It complains that the system FW is less then 330 (aka 3.30).
So nothing adds up.
hoping that what you said is true, but who knows really.
i know that the assembler marketplace will get 2x 60gb PAL backwards compatible launch units if region locks are implemented though..

Why is region locking such a big deal, anyway? There was a thread a while ago where several members said there weren't many Japan-only games worth getting. Are there a lot of games that come out in the US but not Europe?

In my experience, There have been some games that i really wanted to play but weren't available in the US. Also some used game stores will have US titles at one price and JAP titles at another. I would rather pay $5 to play a game then the $20 US version.

1. Cheaper games
2. People originally bought a Ps3 from region X but now live in Region Y (like bought from us but now live in the UK, for example).
3. They are idiots on a message board with nothing better to do then bitch

No I mean like someone might find a USA game cheaper.
Like when I got a 360 at launch, I actually got a JPN unit because USA games released in HK where MUCH MUCH cheaper then buying locally. Plus I knew games would not sell and would drop in prices on import sites.

Some times they are. Some used game shops want to get rid of their Japanese games.
for me it's fatal since i live in finland so obviously both my consoles are pal, and only pal games i have are motorstorm, heavenly sword and folklore, from which only folklore i bought, the other two came with the first console i bought.
tl;dr: i buy my games from usa since they cost about 30€ less there.
region locking would make me unable to use some 10+ games i've bought..
...and then they ask why people pirate things -_-
