Now that I have my TEST I can finally run client programs on my PS2 and would like to give PS2 dev a little try. From what I gather, you can either use USB with a special cable or LAN using the NA. Is there any way to do programming using FireWire? For me, it would definitely be the cheapest and easiest method.

you would need to have launcher or so for FireWare,
From now you can try homebrew launcher for using with LAN,
USB might be good to previewing from let us say OPTPiX iMageStudio application, more details - http://www.webtech.co.jp/eng/istudio/ps2/faq_ans.shtml#Funq8

AntiPasta, this is exactly what you want:
http://www.snsys.com/playstation2/proview.asp
http://www.snsys.com/playstation2/proviewplus.asp

Proview PLUS for PlayStation®2 consists of host and target software. The host software consists of a post-mortem debugger and a Target Manager plug-in providing communication with the DTL-H3010*LT over i.LINK. The target software (contained on a start-up card) provides debug communications (DECI2 over i.LINK) using SN Systems' reduced footprint driver. start-up card, that sounds interesting...
Anybody know what LT stands for?

It's neither cheap nor easy to get though...

Thanks for your replies guys! This Proview thing looks really good, but I was rather looking for something to tinker around with, no official SN sys stuff :-)
Ah well, I'm sure I have my NA around somewhere, if I can find it in this mess...

I can help you out on this UJ,

The Programming Tool LT (from SCEE)
The new "Programmin Tool LT" from SCEE is a new tool (released in 2004) that consists of a complete bundle of newer model TEST Station (aka Debug) Station, a network adapter, 40Gb Hard Disk Drive, and a start-up security card.

The LT is a low cost solution for developers who do not require the full functionality of the full Development Tool (DTL-T10000) - for example sub programmers and artists on a development team. The LT supports debuggers that tartget the Debug Station, using DECI2 communication over an Ethernet connection.

I nabbed all the above information from a PlayStation 2 Developer Support leaflet/pamphlet thing I've got.

Thanks.
Could you take pictures or scan of the leaflet?
