I've started some more Sonic Adventure re-texturing projects on the HKT-01 Sega Dreamcast Development Box (http://segakatana.com/hardware.php?cat=dcdev&id=hkt01). By using the development box, I wouldn't have to burn multiple CD-Rs to test on a retail unit.
The first 2 screenshots are using the background .PVR file from the Ice Cap snow level. The next 2 screenshots are using the background .PVR file from Mystic Ruins. The last 2 screenshots are using a random "night-time" background.
Expect a YouTube video soon! ;-)

Wow awesome work there dude.
Are you planning like high rez patch for DC users?
Now if only someone could fix that camera :p
Seeing as Sonic Adventure came out at the very beginning of the DC's life it would be safe to say one could squeeze a bit more out of the game via texture improvements. Question is will the engine handle it and is there enough spare vram to do so? I'd wager that the engine was probably on the side of inefficient and there probably won't be much space to work with.
But hey, I'm no coder, don't take my word for it.

Thanks guys.
@APE, I actually tried squeezing, resizing, and replacing some textures from the PC version of Sonic Adventure DX into the Dreamcast version last year, but the game would crash while loading the level. I've figured out the problem (occurs when compressing the .PVR textures back into a .PVM file), so I'll try it all again later on.
I decided to stick with the "night-time" background instead of the Ice Cap & Mystic Ruins background, so I did a little editing so that it would fit well into Emerald Coast. I took part of the texture found in the original SONIC_SKY1.PVR file and inserted it into the night background below.
http://segakatana.com/images/sonichax/ecoast_nightbg_small_01.png (http://segakatana.com/images/sonichax/ecoast_nightbg_01.png) http://segakatana.com/images/sonichax/ecoast_nightbg_small_02.png (http://segakatana.com/images/sonichax/ecoast_nightbg_02.png) http://segakatana.com/images/sonichax/ecoast_nightbg_small_03.png (http://segakatana.com/images/sonichax/ecoast_nightbg_03.png)
After, I thought, why not edit Sonic to look like Super Sonic? So, I replaced some textures from the SONIC.PRS & SONIC_EFF.PRS files with those from the SUPERSONIC.PRS file. You can see the results below!

this game was really the craps... It reallt needs better textures, and better animation, and a storyline. Can you put that in there also? :)

I really want a version with that night sky texture. Are you willing to make it public somehow so I can burn a copy of it to CD-R and play it on my DC? That right there takes my Cookie of the day. Congrats and I hope you enjoy your prize.

Looking smart ! Sonic Adventure 1 isn't all that bad really compared to the later crap. I'd be interested in checking this one onut as well.

with all due respect yakumo I don't like to compared turds and see wich one is better. Sonic adventure is playable of course, but very poor in my opinion. It's an insult to sonic and sonic fans. But thats offtopic i guess :)
I second the request for a public version. Should be fun to watch, and play I guess :P

With all due respect to you, sir fisheye, I love Sonic Adventure. And those night sky textures are really an awesome replacement!

SA was rather fun and holds a special place for me simply as it was my first DC game. The sound quality blew me away after years with only an N64.

That's gonna take a ton of time to replace most of the textures. It would be great if it wasn't a one-man project. ;)
I've edited the night background one last time. Here's the final version:

Here are the .PRS files you guys requested. They should work on all versions of Sonic Adventure. Good luck creating a selfboot CD-R!

I've just replaced the textures and tested in the NTSC-U version, and for some reason the blue sky appears on top of the night background texture, but it doesn't show in the NTSC-J version (which is the version I started with).
I'll check out why it's doing this later on. It should be fine if you plug it in the NTSC-J version of Sonic Adventure.

I dont have a way to rip my copy of SA from my DC BUT I do have a CDI image of the game I downloaded years ago. Anyway I can take that image apart and replace the files and stick it back togather lol?
All I have are the US versions so I will hold off and wait and see if you get it fixed somehow. Please let me know once its working on NTSC-U version of the game!

Yeah, that should work too when I fix the texture issue.

Most of us don't speak Japanese.
Why are you using a Japanese copy in the first place?

Any way you can adjust the lighting in the level? Would fit in a lot more if things didnt look "fullbright" with the night sky :)

Adjust the brightness on your television set. :110:
That's gonna take some reverse engineering I don't think anyone has attempted yet.

Back when I started this last year, the Japanese version of Sonic Adventure was the only full dump version I had with zero downsampled files.

you guys don't know what you're talking about(the ones with negative opinions), I played this game back in 1998/1999 and I loved it, 2nd Sonic Adventure was great too(although not as good as first), later games were less and less appealing, but the ones on Dreamcast were awesome and yes you guessed it right - they still are.
I don't know why people are complaining about them, camera wasn't so bad and both games were very playable, add to this unique soundtracks, fairly long storylines(not the best quality wise) and you got yourself a really compelling final product.

Same here. The only Sonic game I enjoyed is the first one on the Sega Dreamcast, but not anything after. I didn't really like the earlier 2D versions either.
*preferred Super Mario World & Donkey Kong Country*

I loved Sonic, Mario and DK all the same back in the 90's. Sonic took a dive at Sonic Heroes unfortunately - the characters and the levels were cool for the most part, but the mechanics felt unpolished.

Very cool indeed. I found a cdi injector (UltraISO) to try to inject the retextured Sonic back in but it wants to create a new iso. I would create and cdi and just boot with a boot disc but it only allows iso and ccd. So what my question is, is there any cdi injectors that actually allows injection in original iso rather than making a new iso with the differences?

UltraISO cannot recreate the multisession format (audio/data or data/data) Use simply Bootdreams to remake your iso.
You have to extract the Ip.bin, some tools like IPCDexpl cand do this work
