I'm getting the same thing through Yahoo:

Virus "Malformed container violation" found. The file attached to this message was infected with a virus that we were unable to clean. You should not download this attachment.

And it won't let me download the attachments... Is there a way to turn off the virus crap in Yahoo?

(I'm getting this on Xtreme.rar.001 and on 2.rar BTW... Neither one seems to work...)

However, I can forward the Emails to my Earthlink account and download them that way... :) So at least I have a work-around...

What if you name them Xtreme.001.jpg or something, maybe then it wouldn't try to scan it as a 'container' or whatever the hell it's trying to do...

Psycho

Okay, found a way to bypass virus scanning on Yahoo (something similar might work on Hotmail). (If there's a way to just turn off Virus scanning, please let me know. I couldn't find any settings for it.)

In Yahoo, right click on the attachment file name, and select 'Copy Link Location' (this is in Firefox, I assume a similar technique will work in other browsers).

Paste that link into a new window, and delete all of this from the end of the line:

&VScan=1&Idx=1

It should then immediately prompt you for a download location...

I assume 1.rar is supposed to be a tiny file? I'm getting a 126 byte file for that one... Or is that a problem?

Yahoo is still complaining about 2.rar, but the techinque I posted above should work to get it...

(Also, you can just build 2.rar from the PARs if need be... Well, technically Xtreme.rar.001)

ASSEMbler
07-05-2007, 02:25 AM
It's Japanese. You'll need the region switch.
it needs the sega first part boot cd to work kd-01 I believe.

Burn it to cd, get the bios and emu I sent links for and fire it up so
you can play until you can mod your unit.

You can try to patch the region, but whenever I tried I lost the subchannel sound.

It's a strange multi-session structure with a few files I could not extract.

Alright! I have all the files, but what are you supposed to do with the files once you extract them? I mean Xtreme.rar.000, Xtreme.rar.001, etc... are you supposed to burn them directly to CD? Winrar won't open them.

ASSEMbler

It would be nice to expand the play area.

You need:

quickpar (check the files)
then mastersplitter to join
then winrar to extract the files
and then a program to burn them with

You have to connect files 001 - 011 together into one file to make the RAR file.

Master splitter http://www.tomasoft.com/

Was recommended to do this... If you are on a PC, you can open a command prompt, CD into the directory where the .001-.011 files are and type:

copy /b Xtreme.rar.001+Xtreme.rar.002+Xtreme.rar.003+Xtrem e.rar.004+Xtreme.rar.005+Xtreme.rar.006+Xtreme.rar .007+Xtreme.rar.008+Xtreme.rar.009+Xtreme.rar.010+ Xtreme.rar.011 Xtreme.rar

(All on one line (well, it will wrap to the window, that's fine)) and it will create the file for you.

The only reason I'm doing it is because they pay well  Within the last 5 years I've done English PR videos for Shimano (bike break system), Fujitsu (Recycle PC parts), P&O Ferry (training video) and this company that makes navigation hardware for big ships. Does this mean we can talk about it elsewhere now?

I'm stuck - I cannot get rar.2 as yahoo will not let me download it. Can anyone send it to me here via PM (can we send attachments here?) alternatively can someone put it on some free site like rapidshare/megaupload/etc - or just plain ol' ftp will do....

Just download all the other parts and use the PARs to rebuild 2.RAR. That's the easiest thing to do for people that are having problems getting that one file...

What would be the point, anyway? Pretty much the whole thing is shown in the video ASSEMbler made.

BTW, ASSEMbler, there's a text file in the folder with my cover that says "100% hand drawn." It was actually made on my computer, not that it matters much. Anyway, excellent work man.

Here's what you can and can not do with the file

CAN DO - post pictures and videos on your site (I've done so already with a groovy remix audio track), write about it telling what ever information about the game.

CAN NOT DO - say where the video or images came from. Distribute the game in any way that's playable to others. Mention anything about the 0th bit section of ASSEMbler.

I think that just about covers it.

Sadly, I'm messed up with much work. I hope I can give it a try and read this entire thread this weekend. Because although I've been able to get the ISO and covers I've no idea about what that PAR2 thing is, he he he.

fwiw I managed to rebuild part 1 & 5 using par2, which I was quite impressed about.

First I unrar'd all the files I had.
Then I got the command line version of par2 and did: "c:\temp> par2.exe r xtreme.rar.par2" and it tested and created the other two parts I was missing. Then I used the copy /b command that was posted earlier to join all the parts into xtreme.rar. Then finally unrar'd that one.

I had a problem burning the iso, it didn't create a readable disc. However I was able to mount it with daemon tools on another machine at work, which worked fine with the latest ssf.

If you've already got the ISO, you don't need the PARs... They are just to help you rebuild missing files so you can extract the ISO.

SMF: Thank you for your help, although I already got the ISO and covers from the "basic" RARs. That's why I didn't understand the sense of that PAR files ;) .

Psycho: Also thank you for clearing my doubt :) . Wow, then that PAR utility is very interesting. Does it use some kind of CRC method? I'll have to take a deep look to that application when I've free time.

from www.par2.net (http://www.par2.net)

What is a PAR file?
Parchive parity files (or par files for short) create redundant data that can be used later in case parts of the original data is lost or corrupted. Par files allow file level recovery of data. That is, out of a group of many files, if a limited number of files are lost or corrupted, they can be recovered. These files will have the extensions of .par, .p01, .p02 etc.

RAID works in a similar way, imagine the first bit of two files:

file1: 0
file2: 1

If you have even parity then you'd have:
parity: 1

even parity means that if you add all the bits up then you have an even number.

You can lose either file1 or file2 and still be able to work out the contents from the remaining files ( you could also lose the parity but thats obviously not a problem either ).

PAR2 actually uses reed-solomon codes, which are actually more complex than this. They are also used on audio cd's to correct errors.

Start and then C is enough. Just playing it on my Japanese Mode 1 Saturn. First time I tried the Swap Trick and it worked. Just great to be able to play this piece of video game history. Thanks again to all involved and ASSEMbler especially! :)

Edit: @Muffinman

Nice high jumps! So, how do you do it?

Don't believe that the files we got were all modified individually to be able to track down the person who would leak it. They aren't, we all got the same files. So the public release will be the same what you already have.

yeah you just rapidly hit B and jump. graciano1337 was over playing it since even though he has the files, since he's on a mac he can't emulate it and he doesn't have a saturn, and he was doing that.
