//////////////////////////////////////Welcome\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
------------->ASSEMbler - Release project - Sonic Xtreme<----------------
//////////////////////////////////////Welcome\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

After almost a year of discussion and negotiation, the owner of the Sega
Nights version of Sonic Xtreme has agreed to a release!!

He decided that the game should be public for everyone to experience. I
would like to say that he is a really dedicated collector, wants no credit
and isn't even asking to recoup the full amount he paid.

He considers the $$$$ he's losing a donation towards THIS COMMUNITY.
He holds what we do and discuss here in such high regard.

So without much delay, the terms!

A slight hex change to the game to remove a name.
This is noted in a changes.txt file on the iso.
Why? This keeps people from being fired ,and keeps the original
copy unique. It also keeps away the ebay pirates. If a copy is ever
burned / sold ,even on Sega Saturn cdr, the change can be detected.

Funds - $2000 USD.

It seems like a lot, but we are a community. There are a LOT of us, and if
you're as excited as I am, we will soon have the holy grail of Saturn within
our grasp.

I am really hoping we can pull together and get this done.

"How do I donate?"

Funds will be accepted by paypal.

In order to prevent the freezing of the account by paypal, we will use
ebay. Paypal only allows donations to registered not for profit
organizations. However there is a workaround, a dutch auction for a $5.60
consultation will go up in the professional services area.

This is the auction link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150127248262

With the effort of this community, this fundraiser should not be hard.
The donation is really $5.00 with the additional $0.60 going towards
the ebay and paypal fees.

This works out to only a $5.00 donation per person, please feel free to give
whatever you like. Anything over $2000 will go into a war chest.

$10 would be two items (buy two)
$20 would be four
etc.

This paypal account belongs to a friend, so if you send him an e-mail he'll
just try to sell you pawned beanie babies. :katamari: If you have any questions
just ask me via PM.

Anyone can donate, but this discussion is open only to this community.
This is a hidden forum, no one else can read this post or be added to this
forum. This group was selected and made last week, no new registrants
can be added. I will not acknowledge that this post exists outside of this forum.

We all remember the problems we had last time. That was because I was
only the middle man and it was out in the open. This time it's private,
hidden, and best of all, the owner and I have a friendship and trust.

So in front of me, on my desk, is the game. That is how serious this is.
This IS going to happen. This is not a discussion, it is an ANNOUNCEMENT.

Release:

Upon completion of the goal, the funds will be held for a period of two
weeks to allow for any credit card scams to be detected and dealt with.
On the 14th day, the game will be available for immediate download
to the people WHO DONATED.

As part of the agreement, the game will be torrented to prevent profiteering.
However, this may not happen for almost a month. Participation has rewards.

I ask for all of your cooperation in not violating this waiting period.
This wait is so that people in the community who have donated can make videos
and screencaps for news articles and web sites.

I know some of you are probably pumping your fists in the air, are numb with
disbelief, or are still re-reading this to make sure it's real. This is some
great stuff, and reflects the new goal of this site to uncover, share and
preserve these rare games.

I can unearth my Saturn for this piece of history hopefully. Great work Kevin, and thanks for going through the trouble of releasing this controversial title.

I look forward to a release and I m sure there are many of us willing to donate.

Are you going to post in this thread once the Ebay "auction" goes up? I'm really looking forward to this. From reading the post I gather it's fine to make a video of the game for my site? It will go well on the new hosting I've just bought with terrabytes of bandwidth :)

Wow, thanks to the owner and ASSEMbler making this release possible.

I am not a huge sonic or nights fan but this release will be huge for the ASSEMbler community. - I'm suprised and honored to be granted access to this!

I will happy contribute for releases such as these!

Keep up the great work guys!

Which version are we talking about here? That Jade Gully tech demo or is it something more complete?

Either way $5 is definately getting chipped in.

Count me in, too. I'm a bit broke until july, but I can certainly put a few bucks towards this exciting goal. By the way, is it possible to run Xtreme without modding a Saturn? Kinda like a swap disk or something? My PC is waay to slow for emulators (Daytona runs at about 4 FPS)

Aww shucks, If I can help some people get the game in their hands then all the better. I dont much care for sonic nor Xtreme but I can see that it is a part of history, one that I'd prefer gets out to people.

To everyone:

A dutch auction like this; There are 500 available at the price of 5.60$. Since the lowest possible bid is 5.60$ EVERYONE will pay this amount PER the number they request. The only way this wont happen is if we get over all 500 sold. Where the lowest bid (5.60) will then move up to the next lowest.

Basically what Im saying here is ONLY BID 5.60 PER ITEM! If you wish to donate more (10$) then please bid for 2 at the 5.60 price point, etc etc.

if you pledge more than this and only bid on one, you will still only be paying 5.60! To all those that didnt do that, dont worry. But please anymore, only give 5.60 per quantity.

Example: I wanted to pledge 50.00

I bid $5.60 for 10 of the sets. This brings it to $56.00.

I want to donate, but I'm not quite 18 yet, and eBay\PayPal say I have to be. I'd also really rather not lie on anything financial, I don't want my bank account being closed or anything, especially since I'm in a different country to the bank I'm with. Unless a few here say I can get away with it?

yuckymucky
05-29-2007, 01:00 AM
Do we need to keep the PayPal reciept to prove that we made the purchase? My eBay name isn't anything close to my name on here so I am assuming that is the only way to prove donation?

ASSEMbler
05-29-2007, 01:03 AM

05-29-2007, 01:13 AM

It's astonishing to me that most all of us will go out and pay $50 for something modern, but when the stuff of legends is well within our grasp a $5 donation becomes cumbersome.

Don't get me wrong, I praise everyone here who has donated already and those also who plan on doing so in the near future.

Anyone who hasn't donated ought to do so as a courtesy to others as well as yourselves. Perhaps Sonic eXtreme does not 'tickle your fancy' but if this does not work out then future efforts will be severly crippled. And hell, there just might be something down the line that will realy floor us all. ;)

History folks.. It's history that we are attempting to preserve here and I for one think we ought to pick up the pace and suffocate this thread with money!!

I'm dropping $40-ish in the pot 2moro morning, this is so exciting i'm getting spasms...

Oh, and afaik, the Nights engine version is the one where we see sonic moving around on a green field with no fish eye.

Very Very cool! I'm quite excited this is happening and I'll definitely throw a donation in when I get the chance (I have a flight back home tommorrow so I probably do it soon after) .

But, this is quite exciting! Im quite the sonic Xtreme fanatic, reading the history of the whole thing. In fact, I've probably seen most images and videos released related to the darn thing! So I'm very excited

Unfortunately I don't have a saturn.... I wonder what emu this will play best on...

PS: to the guy who said that this ain't biohazard 1.5, Hopefully, next time :p. I'll probably shit myself if that happened, knowing that, the thing was 80% complete, and probably very very playable as a game.

EDIT: I relooked at the auction. The title's jokez ! at first I'm like "what the heck does "ONE S0-N1-C plastic support" then I'm just like ohhhhh! " S0-N1-C = sonic. The fact that, that took me lik 10 mins makes me feel so moronic.

Ya, racketboy.com had a pretty good article on it a while back...

Kind of a nusiance though, but hey it works.

-ServiceGames-

that is the real point. lots of people are donating just because they want to help the community play his first "ACE", and not because they're great fans of the game... also lots of them have no means of playing it...

i probably can't play it because i just have a 3rd party bootdisc, and i've donated just 5$, if i'll see there's the need because there won't be enogh donation i'll put in other 20$.

also your example of buying a new game for 50$is funny :D

let's keep up the good work people! i know we can reach it, but it's normal that the more interested people are, they more they bet ;)

Did you bid $10 on one , or buy two.

You need to buy one per $5 donation. There's no point in bidding $20 on one.

If you want $10 =2x
If you want $20 = 4x

So when you bid and it says quantity, bid 4 more. (if you've only bid once so far)

I just need to establish a few things. How many people are included in this as $5 is a small donation and $2000 is a lot of cash? Also not being a tight fisted guy or anything, but what would happen (for instance) if the "column" turned out to be a dud? Not in this instance as you seem to have done your homework, but in future is someones eyes were too big for their belly and they made a $2000 mistake?

Just curious as frankly, I grill anyone asking me for money lol

I'm also without a Saturn (it died ages ago), but they are pretty cheap to buy so count me in too. However, like a few others on here I have limit funds thanks in part to me just starting a college course (yes, old people can go back into education). ;-)

So, I shall gladly donate $12 and figure out how to get it to you. Does that seem fair enough?

What about in future having a raffle for this kind of thing? You could even do it in the general forums. One of those amazing Acclaim pieces, or something donated by any of the members of this group could be offered as a raffle prize on the general forum and the amount raised used as capital towards this particular area of interest. Just a thought.

Not entirely sure what you mean mate?

1) The game is being "bought" by the community for the community. We are "donating" which means as a general rule we are allowed to ask questions. If you don't have small print, clearly defined rules, then someone is bound to screw things up for everyone else. No single person is being singled out, I am just merely asking for clarification.

2) I don't know the hard work that has gone into securing this software, but from what I gather it is substantial and of course it's a priviledge to be considered part of that, however as with above, I am entitled to ask questions and you've misunderstood what I wrote...

3) ...the "prize" I was talking about was a means of raising funds! In other words, donations "from anyone" which includes me (trust me, if the right software title comes up, I would lay one of my nuts on the line) in the "general forums". In other words, the 0thbit can't be spoken about anywhere else so you aren't going to go into the general forums and say "We are donating this item in order to get X software". Catch my drift?

4) ...is there ANYONE here on the forum who doesn't own something from Acclaim? lol I was just giving an example, not asking someone to donate their stuff. If it comes to it, I'll make the first donation to show willing man.

I am trying to contribute for the community good

I have donated for a second

please don't jump to the wrong conclusions.

We've already seen what the game is. This is the same game
that sold for over $2500 no more than a year ago.

$2000 breaks down to about 400 people giving $5, or 200 people giving $10.00 each.

This is like owning biohazard 1.5 or similar. This is incredible stuff, and if it
fails to excite you because you don't own a $10 gaming console then
quite frankly I'm puzzled. What you're saying defies the very reason for
being here in the first place.

This is not a full game, it is the original nights engine version that was pitched
to sega of Japan, that sonic team sawand went apeshit over the use of the
nights engine, and made them use their own custom engine (fisheye).

There is no saturn version left existing except this, this is the only copy existing.

There is a PC version of the fisheye game, but it's mostly stuff added on
in revent years.

I'll make some videos and pictures, but so far the lack of excitement
is disappointing. I understand that we might not be sonic fans
and that could be a problem.

That is one reason why I set the auction for a week.
If we do terribly, and don't get close I am just going to pull the plug.
However that probably means the game will never see the light of day.

I have the game here, in my hands. If this takes six months, it takes six months.
Some of you weren't here for the giant shitstorm that hit last time, and that is
why it is hidden away.

We could probably raise the money in a few hours if it were out in the open.

However, the chaos and bitter feuding isn't worth it.

Amen to that! All the grief here last time this 'emerged' is something I'm sure noone wants repeated!

We'll get there though for sure. We're over $700 as it is..and I (and many other exisiting contributors) will be happy to chip in more if needs be. So please don't pull the plug lol!

As you say its sonic, so unless you're a fan you're going to be less inclined to chip in. I'm guessing that's why it might be slower than you were hoping. But then as you rightly say it is history we are looking at here! That's why I have chipped in..as I generally dislike Sonic games.

I mean, to put it another way....if say this was BH1.5 I reckon twice as much would be raised in half the time....

Also, and this is just a quick observation on my part. When you first announced all this (prior to the auction going up) and the figure of $2000 had been stated I instantly thought that would be 100 members at $20 a pop (or 80 x 25 or 200 x 10)...so I was a little shocked when it was 400 at $5 a pop. Sure they equal the same thing but 100 x 20 seems a lot easier to work with than 400 x 5. Sure, people can chip in more as they see fit etc, and I'm sure we'll hit $2000 for this. But perhaps, looking ahead to further projects like this, it might be better to raise the minimum stake a little....maybe say $5 per $k needed to be raised. So if $2k is needed to be raised the minimum contribution is $10, $3k its $15 etc. Just a thought.

Keep up the great work regardless!

"We've already seen this game...." Okay, I guess I am relatively new to this entire field, which is not something I hide. So for the record I've never seen it before, don't know it's value and wanted to ask, but felt discouraged from asking. That should give some indication as to how intimidating being new to this sort of thing is, which is why I am always prepared to ask stupid questions when others might not. I've stated several times in all sorts of threads that I am new to this, unlike others. I don't "pretend" to know.

If for some bizarre reason I am being shot down in flames for asking, then how can people learn especially if the rules of this thread are that you say nothing elsewhere? I'm hardly a threat, but I don't like being pushed around or patronised like I should know not to ask. I was invited to contribute and I'm sorry if what I should then do is shut up.

The whole Assemblegame forum is meant to be about discussion. I've contributed various threads, some of which are light hearted because I really do not take myself seriously. Others are general interest queries about consoles, I don't pretend to know my stuff as I am learning. Yet other threads are concerned with bits & pieces I do know about. I've been congratulated for standing my ground, sticking up for myself and for contributing to the general community feel of the forums. You selected "me" to come here, which was very kind of you, but I never actually asked.

I asked about the number of people because I don't know whether you are really needing larger contributions or not. I can do the maths, but I was asking whether there were sufficient numbers of people invited into this thread to generate sufficient funds at $5 a throw. Hence my donation, which wasn't vast, but there we go. If you consider my question, you'll see I was politely asking whether we should increase our contributions, not "$5 is too much, we need more people!"

Am I being flame grilled for asking questions? If so why? I merely stated that if this was going to be a repeated exercise then drumming up funds might be considered. Everyone's collections are safe, I didn't steal them and suggest they were being split up to obtain software I am not prepared to donate to.

What does "..if it fails to excite you because you don't own a $10 gaming console then quite frankly I am puzzled. What you're are saying defies the very reason for being here in the first place..." actually mean? What does it relate to? I said "I'm also without a Saturn (it died ages ago), but they are pretty cheap to buy so count me in too" and "...I shall gladly donate $12 and figure out how to get it to you. Does that seem fair enough?"

Did you actually read what I wrote?

If you're having a go at me then just spit it out. I cannot see what I have said that is so out of order that it warrants me being made a laughing stock of Kevin?

Frankly, if anyone asking questions about something they don't understand about the gaming community is rounded upon then perhaps the question should be, does the Assembler community exist to assist anyone from all levels of gaming interest or purely as an elite brigade unwilling to open it's doors to new members with less knowledge than those already here?

Up 'til now I have always felt 100% welcome and at home. If being at the "core" of that gaming experience is being lampooned for merely opening my mouth and having the audacity to query how this is all being handled, then yeah, sorry I would seriously re-consider being a member.

Being that I am 35years old, I have no gripes with anyone, it's all a tad strange to me why I am being questioned. So, perhaps an olive branch would be good mate? If I wanted a cheap fight I'd just 'phone up my ex-wife and let her talk bollocks to me all night! I come on Assembler to learn, relax, chat and have a laugh. That generally doesn't entail being criticised for either asking questions or making suggestions, which incidentally have been taken out of context.

I didn't post what I wrote to have a go at anyone, and I assume that you didn't write what you wrote to have a go at me. Because if you did, then consider me out of this. <Oh, either way I'd still donate, not because I am particularly interested in Sonic (sorry, I am not a huge fan) but because I contributed so that it could out there, not for personal gain> ;-)

Hmmm? I never suggested for a second that the software was unimportant. In making a contribution of any kind however large or small I thought that perhaps I was doing ''my bit'' irrespective of my interest in this particular piece of software or not.

Being new shouldn't mean being a easy target for a community flaying!

Whenever I've said anything to upset or offend (which hasn't been often), I've had the guts to admit it and apologise. I'm quick to spot my mistakes.

Kev, you can't pick & choose the people that become members of the Assembler community, but you can nurture the community and let it grow. I think it's genuinely a fantastic place, but today I just feel that I'm being patronised which is ironic considering those who immediately responded to my posting totally missed what was being written. Was I or was I not actually trying to drum up further contributions and even suggesting a general forum raffle for future funds? I even said I would be willing to donate a bit of my kit to the cause!

I enjoy being part of the community, but not being patronised for being less knowledgable on specific subject matter.

What I wrote seemed to be totally missed, the points I made were lost in some weird time warp! I said I was in favour, count me in, here's my donation and what can we do to drum up further cash! Also, do we have sufficient people in the thread to reach the target with just $5 contributions. Somehow it ended up with '' you are an idiot Parris '' - lol

Hey, it's no sad loss and you'll still retain the contribution. Even better, you don't even have to apologise, which would have been good, but fair enough!

Hi Everybody,

I just wanna add that we are given an incredible opportunity here to get something that is one of a kind. Let's not ruin it. Kevin is trying to pull this off for us, he is not forced to do so.

How many people do you actually know who would do that?

From my prospective if people have questions they should ask them, forums are meant primarely for discussion let's not forget that. There are enough crap out of the forum to get angry at. Let's make at least the 0bit section peaceful and opened.

If some of the people here don't have a Saturn, there are a couple of decent saturn emulator like SSF which are getting better everyday. Any help required let me know.

This time it is Sonic next time it might be a title that some other like, let's try to make this release a smooth success to pave the way for more. I'm not a huge fan of Sonic myself, but I guess I am very interested in anything unreleased.

I agree totally. What I wrote was not meant as a dig and Kevin should be congratulated on having fought to get this released.

Debate & discussion on how to facilitate further releases, whether a slush fund should be provide so that unexpected releases can be snapped up, all sorts of questions exist and I hoped to open a path for some of that.

This area of the forum really should be for serious discussion about serious issues (which I am sure is what was initially intended). Regrettably that can mean serious fall outs, so hand extended and waiting for Kev type shake...... so, let's just get on with it eh!

Call it settled Karsten, no problems here.

Re Kev's Acclaim software. I wasn't suggesting he "give" it away or even donate anything. It was merely a light hearted suggestion in order to generate a legitimate source of funding for the releases. If I have a $20 PSx with Acclaim written on it (which I do) and it was auctioned, it would be in the general threads as a bit of fun. You'd have every man and his dog donate $5 if he thought he was getting a bit of devkit. Unknown to the general thread, all those donations would be contributed to a slush fund for software releases.

The point wasn't to get Kev to put his hand in his pocket, it was just an example. Honestly, I genuinely don't expect anyone to go further along the road than I would be willing to do so myself.

I felt the lick of a few flames, but perhaps it was unintentional. I think it needs to be clarified that being "new" doesn't mean "stupid" it just means you lack the experience and knowledge, which is why I feel the need to ask dumbass questions. It saves anyone else doing the same >>> points at no one in particular (but you know who you are!) lol

All is fair in love & gaming

Put one of my worries another way. Take Kevin out of the situation just for a second. Imagine this were anybody else. If the seller rips the buyer off, then we have a problem. What if all the donations don't come in, who pays the short fall, what would happen to the auction if it were cancelled or fell through and the buyer were left having to pass back all those donations? PayPal fees aside, it would mean losses on both sides. I am sure these are all sensible queries gleened from almost 5 years of dealing with eBay and PayPal.

This time it should all go 100% smoothly, but I was asking about what to expect in relation to future finds. Have none of us considered where Kevin would be if he were left to make the shortfall and arguements sprang up about where to go with this next time? Seriously, sometimes the glittering prize at the end of the line takes people's eyes off the logical ball!

I always try to deal with things I can afford, which isn't always easy when something turns up out of the blue. You might have 1 buyer, but you have approximately 400-500 stakeholders in the end. That's a few people to go around if an issue arises and the whole point of doing this in such a manner is because few of us actually has $2k sitting available to purchase one particular item. That's a heap of cash if something goes terribly, tragically wrong. I might not have negotiated the release or purchase of a $2k software title (rare or otherwise) but I've dealt with $500k house deals and I cross t's dot i's and like to know everyone (including the person(s) respresenting the stakeholders) are safe from being caught out.

In the end, I might be "new" but I am not "green" and although I come to this site with many expectations, I don't expect anyone to take a $2k dump for me. Kev could at some point get shafted for PayPal fees or worse!

Who knows, I may finally "get" that whole Sonic vibe as the only release I really liked was the original one. I hated Sonic Adventures and when I sat watching mates playing various other versions I felt that the originality had been replaced with stock phrasing (If you catch my drift?)

The original Sonic was brilliant, it was new, fresh, fast and different from Super Mario, a hit. With sequels you loose that initial vibe that makes the game so special. I had the same impression with Shenmue I loved the first one to death but then the next one seemed less appealing.

As always take the same principles but a different sorty doesn't mean necessarily you have a hit. Capcom learned that with Resident Evil, Zero was crap but 4 was incredibly new and different.

I think from the Sonic Extreme beta we can learn a great deal on a hit to be being washed out by corporate bullshit.

SEGA US: "can we use your nights engine"
SEGA JAP: " no it's ours you can't have it"
SEGA US "but we already made a demo with it"
SEGA JAP "give it back it's mine"
SEGA:"BTW aren't we in the same company?"

and the story goes on...

Assembler:

I've never bought a Saturn that didn't go for over $40, granted that is with games but why else would you buy a used console for?

To those without chips:
Assuming your saturn isn't a 64 pin model or a model 1 chipping the thing is easier than changing your oil, and less messy to boot. If you are really really are scared to solder you could literally tape the wires in place as there are only 2 and neither go anywhere terribly small.

Yeah, this one seems secure enough, which is a bonus, but it's a general concern about on-going auctions / purchases. Ground rules if you like. ;-)

I should have some funds within the next few days and then ofcourse I'll contribute. it is a bit more money with the dollar/peso situation (1 dollar is just over 3 pesos) - but it's painless when it comes down to what's at stake. I would drop a nice 50 on this if it wheren't for our devalued currency.

I'll donate more later if there still isn't that much excitement. The only thing is that I'm still a student, with no job, a bank account in this country and an $800 debt to pay off (no BSing here, I want Sonic as much as the next guy), so unless the money is really needed, I've only donated once.

Did you bid $10 on one , or buy two.

You need to buy one per $5 donation. There's no point in bidding $20 on one.

If you want $10 =2x
If you want $20 = 4x

So when you bid and it says quantity, bid 4 more. (if you've only bid once so far)

I bought 2 items when the auction first went up. so i paid 10 dollars.

then I put in 5 more, for 25 dollars. and it's only showing me buying 5. o_O

Maybe this could help. For those who are not Sonic fans, here's an excellent article about Sonic Xtreme.

"It’s a series that ranks as one of the all-time greats, and rivaled the insane popularity of Mario and his stable of heroes at its height. Time and the 3D Revolution may not have been kind to Sonic the Hedgehog, but in the mid-90s, there was a brief, shining period when the new, 32-bit world lay before the franchise with incredible promise. This month Lost Levels will show you how that promise went horribly wrong, leaving a wake of disrupted careers, lost promise, and even physical illness. Join us for the strange tale that was Sonic X-treme for the Sega Saturn."

If a copy is ever
burned / sold ,even on Sega Saturn cdr, the change can be detected.

According to an Xtreme dev I talked to, there were only two discs made of this build, so if there's ever a flood of Saturn CDRs filled with this beta, they're bound to be fakes.

It's the one with the 'empty' GHZ level as far as we know. The thing which excites me more about this release is what may be found once it's in the hands of the hex editors. There's never been much said about the extent to which the current owner has explored the disks content beyond what's bootable.

Question.

You say that those who donated get immediate download rights. How are these eBay / PayPal accounts tied to the users on the board, indeed to those allowed into this section? As it is an eBay auction, you could still have people accidentally stumble across the item. OK, I'm not saying that anyone would want to buy some crappy stand thingumuh, but your numpty friend didn't make this a private auction. People watch known collectors on eBay. FACT. Such people will wonder why several known video game collectors are bidding on utter tat.

Also, what does the item comment mean? If we buy the item twice, we are entitled to download it a second time?!? Doesn't it make sense to just say feel free to "buy" multiples of the item, i.e. donate more?

I don't understand the eBay bit, really. PayPal allow you to receive money for purchases for other goods, away from eBay. Many many online shops accept PayPal WITHOUT having an eBay account. There are companies such as hosting services that do. They must receive thousands of PayPal payments for the same value, so it won't be anything suspicious. What's the problem with just doing that - having it sent as goods, other (or whatever PayPal call it now)?

just placed a bid- 5.60. I hope this all goes well....i'll try and come back for more soon. Struggling to pay the mortgage this month (as usual). But! I did sell a C=64 and my flashed 360 today so it's not all bad.

Good luck everyone - and thanks for letting me take part.

"You say that those who donated get immediate download rights. How are these eBay / PayPal accounts tied to the users on the board, indeed to those allowed into this section? "

A: The only people who know about thus auction are here, in this news area, by invitation only.

A: I don't know how many people bid on something blindly because someone else is. If they actually do this 1: They are fucking idiots 2: They will eventually e-mail me and wind up getting a $5 refund.

"Also, what does the item comment mean? If we buy the item twice, we are entitled to download it a second time?!? Doesn't it make sense to just say feel free to "buy" multiples of the item, i.e. donate more?"

A: I could have said it 1000 ways and someone would still not get the hint. A more frank a discussion would amount to telling people that this was about donating money, and ebay would shut it down.

A: Paypal requires those businesses to have a business account, verified address, a bank account, credit check/ credit card, proof of inventory, and tracking for sales. They are also known for shutting down donations like this pending "proof of inventory".

Ebay allows for a plausable smoke screen. Items sold.

Questioning the method at this point gets us nowhere, as it's
already in action. I have fully explained these motives BEFORE in other
posts. I will not comment on this any further.

I am currently trying to take screens and vids, but my mod chip died.
The disc requires a saturn boot cd, sega 1st part version. I happen
to only have the 3rd party disc. I've asked the owner to send me a
clonecd version so I can try to hex edit it for my black boot cd.

If someone can walk me through a saturn emulator, I can use
that until I get the clone cd rip from him.

I'd like to get the pics and vids up tonight.

Ok, you wanna use SSF as it's the most compatible and best performing Saturn emulator out there. Get 0.08 Alpha R10 and a BIOS, probably Japanese version 1.00 (SEGA_100.bin, but there's a no BIOS mode which might not work) and that's all. Of course, you need an SSE2 processor (A64 or C2D, some P4s are ok) and dual cores are perferred. Then just fire 'er up, set the BIOS location, enable frameskip in the settings if it's lagging, (but for screenies it shouldn't be an issue), configure a control pad and get going! You may have to configure the date and time in the Saturn BIOS, and then it'll load, hopefully.

This is true people. Something Awful tried to collect donations for Katrina and I believe the owner tried to send out little things as thank yous, nothing special or worth terribly much.

Paypal could really care less about its clients, unless you sue them. Doing it this way Assembler can claim to have actual merchandise ready to be shipped out.

The most important part of this is: Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

What if I can just donate straight to you or wherever that auction's paypal addy is? Will I still be considered? I plan on selling some items and I can use the money I will get from them to go straight to the donation pool. I'm talking about at least $120 worth of items sold where the money will go to this donation pool.

I don't want to risk it.. It's a brand new account, I don't want them looking at it until well after the money is sent to the game owner. I despise paypal...
The could try and screw me over.

OK, I bid for two items. I'm gonna have to use them unlicensed though, can't afford that much for even one license, let alone two!

Can't you use the swap trick on it, Kev? Even if it DOES require the 1st party disc, just swap trick the cloned disc in, then you'll be able to boot from the cd-r.
