Web Hosting recommendations

(Wasn't sure if this is the right place)

I've almost got a whole site made, sitting on my comp, just a little site where I want to post stuff about games I've played, reviews, cover scans, etc. nothing too big or special, and maybe put a blog on it or something, funny stuff, etc. What are some good web hosts, I'm guessing a good free host is non existent? I was looking at these guys: http://laughingsquid.net/ but I dunno. The cheaper the better! Thanks!

If you're in the US, use a US host. They're cheaper in general and since their servers are closer you would probably get better speeds.

So the cheapest 1and1 service, 2.95 a month would probably be fine for me? My site right now is like 2MB, the whole thing. Should I buy a domain name from godaddy or something too?

$2.95 per month is really cheap, but I've heard terrible feedback/reviews about 1and1. I'm currently using Godaddy and might switch over to Brinkster.

I use hostgator.com, as they had a decent package available. So far the uptime has been nearly 100% and the service is great - but it helps that I went to college with the company's CTO.

I use godaddy.com. The only problem I have is actually speed using phpmyadmin (the php front end to insert stuff into your database). Other than that, no complaints. Their support staff is pretty dedicated as well.

Avahost.com is pretty cheap, and so far (3 months) I haven't had any problems.

I launched what I've done so far. I still need to figure out what to do for the home page ( a blog or something) and see if I even did any of it right. I did it with HTML on notepad and NVU. Just looking for some feedback so far, thank ya, any suggestions welcome!

as for blog, if you want to avoid using databases and phpadmin stuff, you could use Cutenews(cutephp.com) it doesnt use any databases, so its completly independant, others include wordpress, and joomla, but i've never tried those

That is good. I already got godaddy though. for a domain and 2 months of hosting it was 9$. Guess I'll find out if it was worth it.

www.topclasshost.com was good to me for a while. I second the Cute News recommendation on the news page though, great stuff.

I'm using Servage.net which is a germany-based firm but has servers in major countries. FTP is fast from here in the US.

for $6.45 a month, you get 360GB storage, and 3.6TB monthly bandwidth. I've had a good experience with them so far.
