Hi all,
I got one of those TOOLs from that Manchester comany too. It's in excellent condition.

Before I do anyhthing should I take out the hard drive and take an image of it, in case I screw anything up?
At the moment I can't get my DHCP server or router to give it an IP address.

When I plug in the monitor there is already an IP address and the domain info etc isall related to the software development company that the TOOL originally used to belong to. :icon_bigg

After I have taken an image of the HD, any ideas how I go about getting the TOOL to get an IP address? Also, I can't remembr how I create a new user account in the Linux side of things

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I think there's already a compilation of posts for 'what to do when u come home with a TOOL under your arms'

yeah I know! The other TOOL was fine but as this is "used" it may need more setup time.

the whole 'root account resetting' has been discussed elsewhere I mean, I think you should refer to those posts.

After TOOL SINGLE during the LILO, account and password reset is standard linux syntax/commands

Not working for me, hope there's no password protection stopping things :(

That's up to you, if your Tool is running redhat 5.2 on a pentium 233, you could always use the hdd dump I made.
The Tool already got an IP address?
Why not using it?
You can change it on the web interface, if you need to set another one.
Try addusr or linuxconf to add users and change settings on the linux side.

How many Tools did you have now?

Are you just getting it bounce back to LOGIN: OE?

Do you think we would be better to get all of this added to clearly defined stickies as we are all adding in, starting threads and searching through several threads for relevant information? For what it's worth a huge amount of information has been collected and is now dotted around quite a bit. It might take some effort to compile it all, but I am up for doing my share of it.

Yeh...it doesnt like me using the usual login/pwds and it doesnt make any difference if I try changing 'em.

That initially occured with mine until I followed the instructions on one of the other threads, which is what you appear to be following (i.e. resetting the passwords). My unit however DID accept those changes. There surely can't be a further level of protection.

I hear another HDD dump coming over the horizon! Oh Sony, how you tease us with your Tools - or something like that. This is precisely what you had planned over the bank holiday weekend no doubt
