I dont know ...my thoughts on the PS3 are about the same as the 360 in the video but if he had put a Wii there..Now that would have been more of a impressive threat.

Sort of reminds me of Austin Powers instead of mini mi we have mini Wii ;)

The thing is everyone loves / has a wii.

Sort of not even at issue. We all have one.

In the "contentious ownership" category there's pretty much just the ps3.

You are right... looking at it from another angle you can say Wii is superior to both and as such a Wii replacement is a given.

But dont get me wrong I liked your video. in one way it is funny in a masochistic kind of way, to your pocket book, and gives a clear message on what you want.

On overheating seems they have 2 issues on their boards one is in soldering the cpu second is the long screw that goes through the fan shroud. i found if you torque it just a little to much your 360 will overheat because it bends the shroud.

I think it's just poor design. Water cooled or modded the systems are rock solid.

Man.. i know water cool works good but something about water and electricity always makes my hair stand up..

I hear that, I don't really want to void my warranty.

If I didn't care, I could try to get two scythe ninjas on it
with some scythe 120mm fans.

I have a prescott pc and it's about 40 degrees at load with that setup.

The best thing about scythe products: whisper quiet.

But the noise issue I have with my 360 is or was the optical
drive. It was so loud. I had to turn my TV UP to cover the noise.

shiny=beautiful. beat the shit out of the non-functioning.

that said, my 360 is louder than my PC and it's not a launch system. Very amateur for a console releaser to release such a noisy product but there u go, i have no funds to replace it.

360 is on permanent "rental" now. Meaning every 30 days it goes back to the store and I buy another one elsewhere, repeat. At least until the hdmi one comes out.

I'm on #2, but that is only because I sold my launch 360 to a friend so he could have one. Maybe I am just lucky, but I have never had a system break on me yet.

I've been lucky too, but the thing is damn loud and hot. Now watch it die now that it's getting hotter and humid...

Gee, the use of that intercooler sure didn't improve his situation.

It's funny, most 360s I hear about that die, have an Intercooler installed.

Those things kill 360s I tell ya.

My retail 360 has been running just fine, pretty quite I must say.My 360 dev kit is very loud but thats another story.

Well I am not mailing a copy of it with the unit, am I now. :-)

As to the intercooler, it actually stopped all the disc read errors.

Personally I think it's just ms smokescreen trying to distract people from
the build quality. People who mod 360's add all kinds of power draw
from places inside the unit and it doesn't do shit.

Don't believe the hype. 3x.10 amp fans = 3.6 watts.

I had the opposite problem - ring of death solved by taking the damn Intercooler off. Those things are evil.

You may as well wait until the new 360 comes out in a few months, the one with HDMI, though I hear that they've already replaced those noisy DVD drives with a quieter model beginning last November.

With the Intercoolers, it is just poor thermodynamics causing problems. Correct me if I am wrong, but don't the Intercoolers fit over a fan inside the 360? You should never feed air through two sets of fans like that. If they aren't going exactly the same speed, you are going to create a pressure offset and have less air flow than if you just had the internal fan.

On your dev kit I found the long screw, towards the center, that goes through the fan shroud needs to be snug but not tight if it is to tight the fans go into an overdrive mode.

Fan stacking is routinely done in overclocking. The fans pull faster than the ones in the 360.

The fans in the 360 pull out, not in.

hmmm ASSEMbler, you could have made the video, and then have sent in the XBOX 360, and then you could have sold the 360 afterwards.

Since what you did there , is perhaps a bit stupid. Since you could have screwed them ;-) now you have just screwed yourself instead. But please donīt take it the wrong way, but hindsight is perhaps something we should have at times. Even me.

So in following procedure

Make the video , but not uploading it. Send in the 360 for the last refurb, then sell it. And then you could show the video.

Fair enough. You should never buy a games console if you don't want the games.

The X360 has a greater selection of your regular single-player and networked console games, whilst the Wii is more of a multiplayer/group/party games machine.

Still lucky here I guess...on my 360 launch model. While changing my entertainment center around I knocked the 360 over from the standing position to its side on my wood floor....twice. Had one red ring come up when I played it without opening the glass on my entertainment center, but about 20 minutes later it was ready to go. I also dropped it from the thrid floor balcony into crashing waves on the beach without problems. OK, I liked about the last part.

I think it's just the luck of the draw. My buddy bought 2 Dells that were lemons back to back. Another buddy of mine won't touch a Toyota again because he had nothing but problems. Every Sony product I've ever had that was smaller than a shoe box lasted a grand total of about 10 minutes. Seems like it's just plain luck...

I got the 3 rings 15 minutes after I got my system I was playing a heated DOA 4 battle and it just crapped on me. Turning my system on it's side and plugging it into the wall and reconnecting the cables fixed it but I'm keeping the system on it's side (I hear doing that is actually better for the system anyway.

As is my understanding any 360 made after July 2006 should be ok.

For sure, on it's side less read errors. I knowit looks good, but I wouldn't keep any system vertical anymore..

04-09-2007, 07:29 PM
In terms of the drive spindle, keeping any optical drive horizontal is a good idea. It's also worth bearing in mind that for an older console, like a Playstation, if you're getting read errors then turning them over may help, as the spindle wear may be less pronounced. Kind of a well-known trick, but worth remembering.

Not that any of you care but I've had 7 360s die on me. My original Every10Minutes system was an earlier revision too and I wish I had kept it. There were some minor differences on the faceplate and junk. Oh well. My 8th system seems to be running pretty well. I just flashed the thing to play around with DOA4 file swapping.
