This game has been out of sight for a long time. But, some are still hoping its alive.
In fact, the big rumor is that its being retooled as a Kid Icarus title. Of couse I doubt it. Of course capcom's stubborness of mentioning the title in any way does seem strange.
Ign's recently made a brief update blurb on the title in there "the lost games of gamecube" feature.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/759/759991p1.html
"Whenever we contact Capcom for an official word on the game, we are met with blank stares. It seems that the company is reluctant to officially offer a cancellation, despite the game's continued absence at trade events or the like."
So I'm pretty interesting in this title still.

unworkable concept anyone?
It'll probably get ported to PS2

unworkable concept anyone?
It looked very promising looking at the pictures, as far as I remember it had a really small coverage compared to other Capcom titles at the time e.g. BioHazard 0 and 4.
It seemed to have some Panzer Dragoon element to it which is good, a shame it didn't become a full title.
As far as saying that it had an unworkable concept, I'm not sure, maybe the limited success of Panzer Dragoon Orta prevented Capcom to launch full production or maybe Biohazard 4 drained all the budget who knows? Probably the success of the gamecube is my best guess.
I hope it gets released in one form or another 'cause it looks superb to me.

the success or lack of, of the gamecube is not an issue at all. Viewtiful joe, killer 7 and even resident evil 4 , were all released on the ps2 platform. I see no reason why the same wouldn't happen in this case.
From personal experience, i can tell that although some concepts seem novel in thought, making a game out of them doesn't always work (as in being actually fun) - I see the mix n match approach of Dead Phoenix to be victim of this more than anything else.

Yep you got a good point, I bet they dozens of other games lying around just as ideas. Perhaps with some rework it could be shape into a real and fun game...

Moreover, there are probably many cases where it is actually possible to turn a concept into a good game, but it's poorly executed. In those cases, the game might be cancelled because it doesn't meet the standards of the company producing it. I think that's probably what happened with the Dreamcast Castlevania game.

My memory may be fuzzy, but I remember a bunch of promo videos included in the Japanese release of the GCN Ocarina of Time, one of which was Dead Phoenix. This was back around the time when capcom was still making mostly exclusives for the GCN.

I think he means the exclusivity of them to the Gamecube. The Capcom Five were all Gamecube exclusives, and all but PN03 ended up losing their exclusivity, and PN03 was shite anyway.

I think there is a movie of Dead Phoenix on the Capcom Secret dvd as well (not the Biohazard 4 one though but a different one).

I've just seen the game's video advert and it seems quite interesting, but I don't like the character's design with that huge claw-hand he uses to shoot.

Hey, I love PN03!
I think there is a movie of Dead Phoenix on the Capcom Secret dvd as well.
I was going through my promo DVDs today and uploaded the video from the Capcom Secret DVD (Label: CAP-J-021122) to youtube as it's a different (longer: 1m48s) one than the one already there.
So, that's my excuse for the bump: http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=LmUtPQaaRJA (watch in high quality!)

Hey, I love PN03!
I liked PN03 as well. It was nothing special but it was fun...especially going back through and collecting all the suits and such. I consider PN03 generally as a sleeper hit or very overlooked game. Its good...but doesn't stand out.

Dead Phoenix will probably live up to its title and stay dead :)
If it was being retooled into a different game, that would have been done by now.
If it was to be worked on again for a Wii/PS2 release, chance of the original team working on it again is slim to none. Many of the people are probably working on other projects or for other companies. I see this as fairly critical because the game wasn't far enough along for a new team to pick it up - they would likely just start from scratch again.
And if they were going to start from scratch again, that just means its a shelved idea. Capcom probably has dozens. I'd love to see this game too, but I gave up hope a long time ago.
