View Full Version : Is Hollywood so far up it's own a..........

The main point of this topic is about Hollywood being stuck so far up it's own arse that they can't see what a joke they are turning the cinema world in to.

Saw Spiderman 2 today which I quite enjoyed. Sure it was more comical than the original and seemed to have less Spidy in it and more Peter Parker, but over all it was an enjoyable movie that gave me a few laughs and what not but not as much as the crap I saw advertised before it. Can you guess what the highlight of the trip to the cinema was? No? It was me laughing so hard at the 4 trailers for HELLBOY. That looks so sh!t :butthead: It's a pure cash in on the Comic Book movie based titles. This one could be a contender for giving The Hulk a run for it's money as being the biggest pile of steaming cack of comic book movies. It just looks so thrown together. The main character is also laughable and wouldn't look out of place in Shrek 2 (A good film)

Another trailer I saw was for Catwoman. Can someone please explain to me why Catwoman is black? I'm sure she was originally white. Don't get me wrong, I'm no racist but why do movie makers insist on screwing up everything? Just take a look at Thunderbirds the movie and the up coming Knightrider movie. Apparently in the Knightrider move KIT can't speak and his red LED front panel is gone. Hollywood really do F@ck up some great licenses.

Come on Hollywood, bring us more movies like Lost In Translation. That's a movie that doesn't rely on special effects or violence to sell it.

Hollywood is much like the game industry these days: 90% utter trash but a few half decent titles here or there.

There seem to be WAY too many movies bassed off of licensed material these days. It seems writers aren't up to snuff anymore... Not to mention the countless worthless sequels...

Haha, Hellboy was a turd...I'm surprised it hasn't hit you over there yet...

Oh...and....HOLY CRAP...theres a Knight Rider movie coming!!!....

One man, Michael Night....

Oh...and on a sidenote...did Kit talk at all during the first season or so, because I've seen episodes that don't feature it at all....

Hollywood is living in their own little wonderful world of money and stars and shitty movies. I too have been fairly unimpressed with recent movies (Lost In Translation, Bubba Ho-Tep, Big Fish, Kill Bill, and Jersey Girl being the only recent releases that I have really enjoyed) and I think that's a reflection of the quality of cinema. Hollywood is sortof taking the same route the record industry is, stagnating in its outdated formulas and unimaginative content and ridiculously priced movies while wondering why so many people are downloading movies from the internet. It's the sort of inbreeding that happens all too often in the corporate world - they are so out of touch with what the consumers want or what works because they are too busy fellating themselves over their percieved blockbusters and 'brilliant' marketing strategies.

And I agree, Catwoman looks like shit, not because of Halle Berry, but because they 'sexed up' the Catwoman costume to make her look like some leather-clad bondage bitch (the Gimp from Pulp Fiction, anyone?) with kitty ears. Plus, I've heard there is going to be absolutely no Batman in the movie whatsoever, which is flat-out ridiculous if true.

The word from people who have seen the test screenings is that Catwoman will be this years Gigli.

You want to hear fucked up. There was real talk for a while of having Beyonce Knowles of Destiney's Child play Lois Lane in the next Superman movie. They were also thinking of having Lex Luthor be from Krypton as well. How is that for fucked up.

On a good note though people are saying the next Batman is going to kick ass. No more of that Joel Schumacher shit like the last two. They actually have people that are fans and give a damn running the show on it.

I'll tell you why catwoman is gonna suck, it in no way follows the storyline at all. I mean halle barry is perfect for the part, problem is the execution and the fact that catwomen was always a villan. Lately independent cinema is getting better these days. It seems studios are paying more attention to them now. A big problem these days is hollywood is trying so hard to squeez out movies they think will sell based on the actor/actress. Also budget seem to be a big problem. Hollywood is notorious for spending more money on a movie then it really needs. Kevin smith ran into this problem with mallrats. Hopefully his next movie will be really good. I feel bad that ben affleck wont be in it (rumored it has to do with jersey girls performance). As for hellboy, everyone seems to like it here. Its coming out on dvd next month i think. Now van helsing yikes!!!!!

Well to be honest i haven't seen hollywood make anything descent from game,tv-show or comic based movies.
I didn't enjoy the first spiderman it just wasn't following the lines of the comic, i mean c'mon web glands instead of his trusty web slingers that always run out at the most wrong moment, i really missed that.
Same for x-men with their suped up gay style leather costumes instead of their original comic suits.

I won't even begin on catwoman or thunderbirds because both trailers just made me wanna cry :smt022

Hollywood hasn't made a lot of films the last year that i can call descent , okay with the exception of shrek 2 which is pretty good or so i'm told.

And the worst thing is their making comic based movies for the next 5 years with a few more installments of spiderman,x-men and batman movies :Hangman:

The reason Catwoman will do ok is because of Halle Berry. They picked her out of other stars because she showed her boobies in swordfish and after that her career soared sky high and now that boobie stunt will end up making her go insane.

I really don't go to the movies because I either wait for it on DVD or just download it if its crap. I download them so that the MPAA learns a lesson that crap movies won't make no money watsover.

I have hopes that I, Robot will do ok. They have Will Smith to draw the mainstream crowd and I know that the idiot fanboys of the book are angry that he's in it.

The reason they picked the good looking suits was because Wolverine would look gay in a yellow spandex/latex costume.

I hope they pick David Hasselhoff. He needs money plus I liked him in the series.

They should also make a Murder She Wrote movie too.

In my oppinion when you base your movie on a comic that has been running for ages and has a huge following of fans you stick to the original or you don't make the movie at all.

And that especially goes for x-men and spiderman who both raped their original comic backgrounds and the worst thing is, the man behind spiderman even gave his ok, money grabbing bitch :smt009

maybe what looks cool on paper doesn't necessarily looks cool on the screen? Personally I think x-men costume looks ok and more realistic compared to bright hue on the comic. Saying that I wouldn't mind to see Halle Berry in white tight spandex covering neck to toe... ;p

for Spiderman I believe going to genetic mutation for webbing is wrong choice. They could make Peter character more brainy and invent the stuff himself... hence constant need for fund to produce more webbing and etc. just like in comic...

cheers

Nope, the actor who will play Michael Knight is not going to be David Hasselhoff although he is said to make a cameo appearance in the movie. We can see Knight Rider on Bravo Satellite TV in Europe. The season on now features a supped up Kit with all new body parts and convertible as well.

X-men ruled

but spiderman sucked (they really raped that comic)

and so did they do with Daredevil and especially they raped the great Frank Miller material

and Hulk ? i only bought the comic of the movie and the comic sucked so no chance in hell i will see that movie ever.

Despite what most thought I liked Daredevil. I thought it was much darker than most comicbook movies. I never did read the comics though. If you want raped franchises look at Spawn. That movie sucked. At least the anime was good for a while.

Was I the only one who HATED the LOTR movies? Peter Jackson RAPED the book and left out lots of interesting parts from the books in all 3 of them and changes the characteristics of fundamental characters. In the Return Of The King he put a ridiculous amount of scenes with Elija Wood crying with his biatch, Sam. Speaking of Hobbits, I guess Peter Jackson didn't read the book as it seemed the hobbits got wimpier throught the series instead of becoming more mature. At last we reach the end of the third one which does not only keep going and going but it has almost no resemblence to the ending of the the book.

Personally i love the LOTR trilogy it's absolutely amazing.
But i see your point, but i did not have this problem because i never read the books so i missed nothing from my point of view.

Same goes for movies like spiderman and x-men , i read the comics and watched the cartoons, so the movies in my point of view both looked raped.
But for people who never read the comic or seen the cartoon the movies seem ok because they don't know any better.

In the end it's all down to your own personal point of view :smt023

It's true that there was a lot omitted from the movies, but all in all, I think Peter Jackson did a remarkably fine job in the translation. You have to realize, that for one thing, the movies already clock in at 3-3.5 hours a piece, which is nearing the point where audiences' attention spans drop to zero. As with every book-to-movie conversion, there have to be directorial decisions as to what materials stay in the movie, and what gets tossed out, and I think for the most part, everything was fairly true to the books. My only complaint was that the part where the Ring is destroyed was changed from the book. In the movie, Frodo rushes Gollum/Smeagol in attempt to get the Ring (and finger?) back, and ends up knocking him off the edge. In the book, however, Gollum is dancing and jumping around with the sheer joy of finally having his Precious back, when he slips and falls into the lava. I would have preferred the ending true to the book, but I suppose it was a directorial decision...

As far as people getting whinier and weaker through the movie, I think it was a VERY good decision by Jackson to portray this as such. Frodo has upon him and him alone the sole responsibility of 'saving the world' as it were, and thoughout the trilogy there are not only Sauron's minions trying to prevent this, but all sorts of other problems (giant spider, Balrog, etc.) attempt to hinder them, and to make matters worse, the whole time the Ring is pretty much calling to Frodo to play with it more, use it, forget the quest... While I agree that Frodo did get to be super whiny, and that Sam was the real star in Return Of The King, in the context of the movie's world I can sortof see why.

Oh, and just for the record, Legolas was far too overrated and Gimli didn't get the love he deserved. :smt023

I don't watch many movies anymore because most of them are shit, but one movie i watched reacently gave me a small amount of hope that there might just be a little creativity and originality left. Just the other day I watched Big Fish, which is one of the best movies i have ever seen. Now, as far as the X-Men movies go, well i did not like them that much. They were ok movies, but they were not X-Men.

Loved the LoTR movies. I never read the books, but everyone I know that read them said it followed very well. Think of how many other movies don't do the books justice? Last book I read that became a movie was "He Died with a Fallafel in his Hand" which was a fantastic book, and a shit movie.

First thing's first. Silverbolt, your avatar is awesome. Steam is the reason I stopped playing half life. I got sick and tired of downloading crap.

I find that when Hollywood is shooting out craps, I can always turn to classics on DVD. The only thing I've really enjoyed in theaters in the last few months was Dodgeball, because I really really love Ben Stiller...He's hilarious in it....as always...er...except when he was in "Envy" that was just kinda odd...but Christopher Walken was hilarious.

Oh...and speaking of comic book movies...did anyone see the preview...Blade III is coming...blah...

Thnx for the compliment, the reason i decided to take this as my user icon is because valve announced that by the end of the month WON will be closed and everything has to go through steam and stopping CS1.5

I actually reall really liked the first Blade movie it really had the hard dark atmosphere of the original comic, the 2nd movie was pretty crap though :smt009

Thye should do a movie of DeathLok. Most of you have probably never heard of it let alone read the comics, but it is about a software engineer who had his brain put into a cyborg - he thought he was coding artificial limbs for landmine victims etc - but the company was using the technology to secretly build the ultimate killing machine -_- When he confronted his boss with the information, his boss shot him and harvested the brain for the cyborg (the previous brain had fried - the onboard CPU was meant to control the wetware). So basicaly the fella is basically a killing machine on a quest to get his original body back - his boss kept the original body in stasis and uses it as a 'carrot-on-a-stick' so to speak to mindfu*k him!!

Personally, I thought Blade was just really weak and campy, and not in the good Evil Dead way either, but that may have just been me...

And I agree with Alien Workshop, Big Fish was a VERY awesome movie that I think everyone should see once. It was a wonderfully written, very entertaining story, and it's one of the first movies I've seen in quite a while that uses the special effects to enhance the movie, not carry it. Highly recommended, A+++, and all that other eBay feedback crap. :smt023
