Hey

I'm going to start making a database of all of the systems I've had from Japan, mostly for personal use. I've been trying to think of characteristics to include as sortable. The database will be 95% limited editions, rarities, etc.

Here's what I have so far, in no particular order:

Company Name
Console Name
Model Number
Box Number (mostly for Sega items)
Nickname 1
Nickname 2
Release Date
Release Price
Sister console available? (ie Sega & Victor Wondermega)
Limited/Unlimited number?
# of units produced
Japan Only?
Color
Theme
Portable?
Outputs 1, 2, 3
Inputs 1, 2, 3
# of bundled controllers
# of controller ports
Wireless controller standard?
Skeleton?
Memory Card?
Media 1
Media 2
Internet Capable?
Battery Power?
FDD?
DVD?
CD Top/Front Loading
CD-Tray (motorized, push button, etc)
Bundled Software 1, 2, 3, 4
Promo Item 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
HDTV Capable?
TV-Game?
Reseller stuff (length, width, height, weight, shipping weight, box type, etc)
Shipping Price from Japan

In the end I want to be able to search and find, for example, CD systems that were skeleton editions and limited in number that can use memory cards (PS2 Ocean Blue, Zen Black, Kasumi XBOX, etc.). Or maybe a TV-Game system with two players that costs less than $50 to ship.

I'm not a technical guy and don't pretend to be one so I usually don't offer any information on things like Bits, colors, processor speed, etc. I could probably add in Bits, tho...I guess...maybe....eh, what's on TV?

Any tips on what to uyse to create such a database? I have Access so that's my default choice. I'd like it to be searchable.

MySQL is awesome for databasehandling.

On a webserver which also supports php use phpmyadmin to do all the administration. It's insanely easy when you've learned the basics.

That will work with the Access database that I create?

No, mysql is a database just like access.

How about screenshots of the consoles? Certain database allows this, like the above mentioned MySQL for example.

I like the idea, would contribute if asked.

Well each system will have pictures, I'm actually getting close to finishing that up now. That will be the first thing I upload. Then I wanted to add the data as it comes in, and have a section where you can search through a database with all of the raw data that is on each product information sheet.
